Week Thirteen Daily Journal

Friday, December 24
Cape Town, Argentina

We had planned to meet Darren and Daniela at 11am but when they came to pick us up we were sound asleep.  Oops- deadly combo of blackout shades and jet lag.  Since it was raining they took us on a fun wine tasting day in Constantia.  First we had lunch and wine tasted at Constantia Uitsig and then we went to Eagles Nest, where we really enjoyed their modestly priced shiraz.  Then we went for a drive, stopping at Houts Bay for oysters and then to Camps Bay where we walked on the beach and then had coffees and drinks at Caprice.  We had shabbat dinner at Amanda Kravitz's house which was really nice.

Freezing gonzalez!

We walked over to Clifton 1st beach to meet Darren and Daniela.  The water was freezing!!  But we all went in.  When everyone else arrived we met up at the pool at the President.  It was so great to see our friends again!  We went to Pepenero for dinner where we had delicious fish and after hung out back at the President.

Tackling Lionshead while staying fashionable

We hiked up to the top of Lionshead in the morning with Sam, Scott, Darren, Daniela, Nicky, Dan and Jonathan.  It was a good hike with some fun rock scrambling at the top.  We went back to the pool at the President and then to the beach, where the water was much warmer than the other day.  Dinner that night was at Balthazar, a steak place at the waterfront.

Future GT destination!

We went to the President for breakfast and then did a full day excursion to Boulders Beach and the Cape of Good Hope.  Unfortunately there weren't too many penguins out, maybe because it was so windy.  We had lunch at Seaforth near Boulders Beach, and then a delicious pizza dinner at Col'Cacchio's.  Afterwards we went to a party at the amazing house of Abrahamson friends - the views were incredible.

We wouldn't know.

We went to Clifton beach in the morning and then back to the President pool.  We went to The Grand for dinner and had really good grilled calamari and then went to a club along with seemingly all the Jewish 18 year olds in Cape Town.  Late night we went to Salzburgers where we couldn't convince Scott to eat the famous 1200 gram burger.

They would not let me adopt him.
We spent the day wine tasting in Stellenbosch.  First we went to Ernie Els' which was in a gorgeous location and had a massive private wine room.  Next to Spier for an African buffet lunch, face painting & entertainment, and then cheetah pettings!  We petted an adult male cheetah who was hand raised from birth.  Finally we went to Rust en Vrede for an excellent tasting, our favorite was the shiraz.  Luckily we also liked the estate blend since we all bought a Nebedchunezzer of it.  That night everyone split up for couples dinners and we hit the Thai place down the street, Tom Yum, for some takeout and went to bed early.

After a bite at NY Bagels, J went to the doctor while Dave got a haircut.  We went to the pool for a while and later, after relaxing at home, took a bus to the waterfront where we bought a new backpack at Amanda's store, Cape Union Mart.  Then we met everyone for dinner at Sevruga where we all drank the Nebedchanezzer.  Shennanigans ensued.  We were inadvertently split up from the group and ended up at a club with some new random friends.
