Tango In the Streets (La Boca)

What do you get when you take a "dangerous" neighborhood, cordon off a special "tourist section" and "re-create" a "vibrant" immigrant neighborhood?

Oh!  How quaint! How cheeful!  How fake!

You get my personal hell, also known as the Caminito in La Boca - a long block lined with brightly painted houses and packed with touts, junk, buskers, tourists and more tourists.

Don't be fooled by my smile.  I am whining inside.
There were, as always, a few (okay, two) high points to the trip to Caminito:

- A really cute branch of Cafe Havana, a chain of delicious coffee shops throughout Argentina known for their tasty alfajores (dulce de leche cookies sandwiches).

Check out how oldey-time this building looks!
You are probably thinking that this is the flagship Cafe Havana, the oldest location in Argentina.
You would be very wrong.

- Dave's debut as a professional tango dancer.  He was recruited right off the streets!  This lady saw something very special in him.

Which is your favorite of Dave's moves?  Please let us know in the comments.

  1. Wow, those tango pictures are amaaaaaazing! The scarf, the hat, the hand placed scandalously high up the dancer's leg...love every detail. And Dave, your calves far outshine hers (but no surprise there).

  2. I also was going to comment on the muscular detail of your calf muscles and then the very tango-esque look of your special travel shoes.

  3. I'm going to go with the last picture - where Dave's left leg actually looks like the dancer's leg.

(You do have some nice calves DM)

  5. I love Dave's Tango dancing costume. The fedora was shiek; but I especially liked the shorts and athletic shoes. They really made the outfit!

  6. Thanks everyone for your kind words about Dave's calves. Ever since he got his pants hemmed too short, he's been especially sensitive about his cankles. Your responses have really boosted his confidence.

  7. Zo, I think that girl was posing for her own photo (which must have turned out horrible). The more important question is, what is up with her leggings?
